Nice to meet you

-Yeah, nice to meet you too. And what was your name again?
-It's Marina.
-Marina? Oh, just like the ship dock? How funny!
-Thank you. It's actually Ukrainian, I'm from Ukraine.
-Really? How interesting! You are from the ukraine, isn't it down... south, somewhere?
-Well, it's in Eastern Europe, right between Russia and Poland with the Black see on it's south border. It used to be a part of the Soviet Union.
-Oh, that's right! So you are from Russia...
-No, I'm from Ukraine, it's been independent for over 15 years.
-Oh, that's right! My grandma was actually from Bulgaria... Neat lady.
-And have you ever been there?
-In Bulgaria? No. But I've been to London. It's kind of in the area!
-Kind of... And how did you like it over there?
-Oh, it was nice. Except that people speak so funny, sometimes I could not understand a thing.
-Yeah, that happens. Well, it was nice talking to you!
-Oh, yes! Maybe next time you'll tell me more about Russia...
-I'm actually from Ukraine.
-That's right. Maybe you'll tell me more about the ukraine.
-Sure.

Ahh yes. That is pretty much how it goes. Of course since my name is Danny when in America I get to skip the first half of that conversation.

Here in Ukraine I get to spend most of the conversation explaining how my name is Danny.

Marnia, that was a great post. Thanks!

No, but at every occasion he does not forget to mention that Ukraine is actually not in Europe.

ahh, ha ha..how true. Jonathan's friend once asked him how we could understand each other seen as I was from England..like he really though we spoke a completely different language. Oh dear.

Katie...YOU do speak a completely different language, but it has NOTHING to do with being British! :) Aahh..poor "dock girl"...I mean, Marina...but I got the reverse in Ukraine with my name...and an added treat was people saying "Kera is too hard to say, we'll just call you Katya". No, my name is Kera". You have all the letters, you can say it. :) Most managed, once they figured out it wasn't "Gera"...a man's name, right? Anyway, funny post, and good for you for putting the "no angry comment" warning statement! :) Love you all...Happy Fourth of July! God Bless the USA! hahaha! :)
